Letters to the Editor Suggestions for Topics It's great that the Slavery Reconciliation Walk is more than just a one-day event. It begins the process of looking for long-term solutions to racial reconciliation in our communities. The long-term steps include building upon the Four Steps of Healing and the planned Study Circles. It is a great idea to join us for the Slavery Reconciliation Walk and show your stand against groups like the National Alliance and KKK. People should welcome their international or out-of-state friends to show what warm hosts we know Annapolitans are. Slavery and racism are different topics. Compliment the Foundation and other community organizations in their willingness to take these issues on by stimulating dialogue in a positive and sensitive way. Take the symbol of chains head-on. There may be other ways to symbolize penitence -- but it is great that someone is trying to find solutions to racial healing in America. Any projects that so many houses of worship can come together to support is something the community should support. The Reconciliation Weekend events planned for houses of worship throughout Annapolis is a significant unifying effort. The Walk is a positive event for the City of Annapolis -- I know many people from out of the area, including visitors from as far away as Canada, are planning to spend time in Annapolis to support the efforts of the Walk. The Interfaith Council of Washington DC, representing over 120 different faith-based organizations, has endorsed the Annapolis Walk and are supporting it. I like the Four Healing Steps that seem to be built
around helping penitents. Are there steps to help forgivers in this
process? |
