Kinte-Haley
Foundation Wins 2003 Historic Annapolis Foundation Preservation
Award
The
Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation, in partnership with the
Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitors
Bureau, won a 2003 Annual Preservation Award for its brochure
entitled "African-American Heritage in Annapolis &
Anne Arundel County, Maryland." The award for outstanding
preservation efforts within the city of Annapolis was presented
today during the Historic Annapolis Foundation's Annual
Meeting at the William Paca House and Gardens.
Historic
Annapolis Foundation President Dr. Gregory Stiverson says
this is the Foundation's highest honor, given to individuals
and organizations whose work and individual service is helping
to preserve the historic integrity of Maryland's capital
city. "This is the Foundation's once-a-year opportunity
to publicly thank our preservation partners. Their individual,
corporate and community efforts are world-class examples
of how an entire community can work together to maintain
and enhance a city of 17th-century design that compluments
21st-century living."
The
brochure was funded in part with State funds from the Maryland
Heritage Areas Authority, and received the endorsement and
active support of the Annapolis, Londontown, and South County
Heritage Area.
The
16-page 32-panel brochure is designed to provide the visitor
with a comprehensive planning tool for spending anywhere
from a day to a week in Anne Arundel County. It is the first
time that an African-American tourism brochure of the region
focuses on the history of both free blacks and slaves.
The
Kinte-Haley Foundation developed the concept for the brochure,
conducted the research, and wrote the copy. The Annapolis
& Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitor's Bureau
provided editiorial assistance and was the lead partner
in marketing and distributing the brochure. Graphic design,
layout, and brochure production was done by the Souza Agency
of Annapolis, Maryland.
For
