Reconciliation Walk to be Held in Annapolis on Anniversary
of Kunta Kinte's Arrival
The
237th anniversary
of Kunta Kinte's arrival in Annapolis will be commemorated
by a special "Walk Thru History" to begin at 11:00
AM at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial at the City Dock.
The Lifeline Expediton Group of London will be the featured
participants in the event as they launch their first stop
on a planned USA pilgrimmage. The historical quarter-mile
walk is estimated to last until approximately 12:30 PM and
end at the Thurgood Marshall Memorial at Lawyer's Mall near
the State House. The event is free and open to the public.
If
you would like to participate in the Walk as either a "penitent"
or a "forgiver," we suggest you arrive at the
Walk's starting point approximately thirty minutes early
to register to receive a free souvenir armband. Please bring
some identification with you if you plan to register to
receive an armband and participate in the Walk as a "penitent"
or a "forgiver."
The
Walk will include brief musical performances and acts at
each of five stops along the route. Copies of program maps
detailing the Walk route will be available for free and
distributed by designated Volunteer Event Staff. A reception
immediately following the Walk will be held at the Banneker-Douglass
Musuem, located within three blocks of the Thurgood Marshall
Memorial.
