The Kunta Kinte- Alex Foundation's Resource Center Collection is rapidly becoming one of the largest specialty collections of African and African-American history, U.S. slavery, genealogy "how-to," and local history and genealogies in the region. Free and open to the public, the Collection is housed in Annapolis, Maryland. Holdings include books, journals, video media, and oral interview recordings.

The Collection also offers onsite visitors free access to a broad range of online genealogy computer databases. The databases connect researchers to over 25,000 additional local history and genealogy books, over 20,000 pages of slave narrative interviews, images of all U.S. Census records from 1790 to 1930, an index to the Freeman's Bank Records, runaway slave ads, images of WWI draft registrations, international records from England, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, and more. Online access is provided to over 1,000,000 photos, and millions of people in their family trees. In addition the Collection includes vertical files containing information about specific Maryland sites, former enslaved people and their owners, and information about significant events in the local region. Our Special Collections include donated materials from personal collections of significance to the history and genealogy of the U.S. and the Africa Diaspora.

Begun in 2002, this growing collection has now become one of the most comprehensive specialty collections in the area. The collection is housed at the Annapolis/Southern Maryland Campus of the Sojourner-Douglass College Library. Books are shelved in a special reserve section and can be identified by the green stars on their spine labels. A smaller number of special collection items, files, and certain genealogical resources are kept onsite as well. In addition a small collection of African and African-American young adult books is available for research at the library.Annapolis All items are available to students and the public free of charge. The Foundation’s collection is a non-circulating collection.
