Annapolis, MD. It's official. Annapolis City government's Resolution No. R-15-06, introduced by Mayor Moyer and Alderwoman Classie Hoyle, passed unanimously on the first vote. Co-sponsors were Alderman Cohen and Alderman Shropshire. The Resolution, entitled Naming of Leonard A. Blackshear Walk, called for naming the walkway adjoining The Story Wall portion of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial after Leonard A. Blackshear "in recognition of his many years of service to the citizens of Annapolis, for his tireless efforts in encouraging racial healing, for his steadfast commitment to promoting African-American history and for his leadership in successfully completing the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial." The 120 day rule for voting on the Resolution was immediately suspended upon its introduction.

Testimony in support of the Resolution was made by Blackshear's widow, Dr. Patsy Baker Blackshear; the Executive Director of the Historic Annapolis Foundation, Dr. Gregory Stiverson; and Judith A. Cabral, Program Director of the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation.
